FLATS’ TEEN PHOTO CAMP

This July, we're opening up our darkroom to 5 lucky teens (ages 14-18) for an unforgettable journey into the enchanting world of analog photography. From cyanotypes to crafting your own pinhole camera, from film developing to framing your masterpieces – get ready for a week filled with creativity and discovery!
Summer camp will be July 15th-19th, Mon-Thur 10am-4pm & Fri 11am-3pm, and taught by our Darkroom Manager Jeremy Perez.
Students will learn how to build a pinhole camera, how use a 35mm camera, how to develop film, and how to work in a darkroom.
Fully Loaded: Shooting in Film

For folks who have never used a film camera before or who might just need a bit of a refresher, this class will show you the ropes! We will be covering basic concepts and practices of film photography, including loading & unloading your camera, understanding the difference in film types, and some light memory jogs on photographic principles & techniques.
DEVELOPING YOUR B&W FILM FROM BEGINNING TO END

Want to take control of the full end-to-end process of your photography practice? This will get you started. You’ll learn the tools and techniques necessary to properly turn your black & white film into usable negatives. With this new skill, you’ll be able to confidently develop your black & white film from the comfort of your own home… or our brand new community darkroom space!
Working in the Darkroom

This introductory darkroom workshop will teach you the basic techniques for printing black & white photographs. You’ll gain critical knowledge of how to use your processed film to create contact sheets and test strips, which will help you determine the tonal range of your photos. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with at least one completed photo print that you made with your own hands.
Printing in Blue: Cyanotype Workshop - TBD
FLATS has teamed up with In Bloom Flower Shop to teach you the magic of the cyanotype process.
In this workshop, we’ll forage through the In Bloom garden and shop for natural botanical items and other found objects to use as subjects for our cyanotype photograms. We’ll cover a brief history of the process and you’ll learn how to prepare, assemble, and create your very own cyanotype prints.

FLATS also offers private lessons for those who are interested in a more one on one setting.
Private lessons can cover loading & shooting film, to film developing, and even darkroom printing. Lessons range from $40-$60 an hour, depending on the chemistry and equipment used.
